MSc Control of Infectious DiseasesContact Rebecca Hermann
BS Environmental Health; BA in Spanish (Colorado State University)
As an undergraduate, I worked as a research assistant doing field work on an epidemiological cookstove study in a Honduras, studying the effects of indoor air pollution on cardiovascular and respiratory health. After graduating, I taught English in Colombia for two years through the Fulbright Program.
Research interests or career goals
My career interests are in infectious disease epidemiology in Latin America, especially in vector-borne and sexually transmitted diseases (some of which overlap). I want to contribute to the design of appropriate studies and control programs for these diseases and incorporate education as a tool for prevention. I’m still not sure exactly what specific direction I want my career to go in, but the MSc Control of Infectious Diseases is an amazing course to help narrow down my exact interests.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
Attending LSHTM has been my dream ever since I first began pursuing public health. As well as its prestigious reputation and global network, I was attracted by its collaborative, friendly academic environment. I chose MSc Control of Infectious Diseases because it incorporates my interests in lab science, epidemiology, and public health into a single, multidisciplinary course, and is committed to helping students like me who aren’t yet committed to one specific path clarify their passions and career goals.
