Public Health by Distance Learning
I graduated from University of Bucharest in 2012 with a Master in Social Research and prior to that I did a Bachelor degree in Psychology and Sociology. During my undergraduate studies, I have been involved with student organisations; at the time, I was especially interested in the role of non-formal and informal education.
After working in Romania on social inclusion programmes, I relocated to South Africa, then Zambia and Kenya, where, for the past 5 years, my focus has been on adolescent sexual reproductive health and rights, more specifically doing monitoring and evaluation of such interventions. It was while I was on my most recent job that I decided to enroll in an MSc in Public Health.
Research interests or career goals
I have been carrying out research on issues pertaining to early marriage and its impact on education and health. I am currently exploring ways to expand my work experience by entering the humanitarian field, and specifically conduct research on mental health issues in humanitarian contexts.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
In addition to LSHTM’s reputation of being one of the best schools of Public Health, my colleagues and friends have also been praising LSHTM’s programmes. I chose it over other programmes because of its holistic approach to public health, which is important for someone like me, with no background in natural or medical sciences, but who is aware of the importance played by social factors in the health of populations.
