MSc Control of Infectious DiseasesContact Nora Bloemer
I received my Bachelor's from the University of New Orleans with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. I spent a year and a half after graduation working in medical clinics as a medical assistant. During my undergraduate years, I also volunteered at a community clinic in a low income area of New Orleans. Because of these experiences, I knew I wanted to work in a health environment but that I did not want to go to medical school. LSHTM seemed like the perfect place for me.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
I decided on LSHTM because of its amazing reputation and contributions to health and infectious disease control. The MSc Control of Infectious Diseases was the perfect choice as I knew I had an interest in disease control and working abroad, but I was not 100% sure what I wanted to focus on. The multi-disciplinary model of the programme allowed me to study everything from epidemiology to statistics, neglected tropical diseases, to nutrition in low-income countries. Additionally, the summer projects provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable field experience and a hands-on approach to disease control. I am grateful to be exposed to so many wonderful and decorated professors. LSHTM has reaches in so many areas of the world that I am confident that my degree will create numerous opportunities for my future career.
