Research interests or career goals
While working as an oncology pharmacist I was familiarised with the medication commissioning processes associated with high cost drugs. I became captivated by those working behind the scenes, determining whether certain therapies were cost efficient and improved quality of life. Oncology is one of the few remaining specialities that remains dynamic with novel therapies still being developed. I realised that the resources available in the UK aren’t available elsewhere and wanted to understand how to develop and implement these systems in middle and low income nations. Essentially, I want to be able to combine my professional experience with the charity work I do in my spare time
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
During my undergraduate degree, I was always fascinated by the determinants of health and epidemiology. Understanding disease trends is the first step towards developing effective treatments and was the true backbone of my discipline. I chose LSHTM as it provided one of the most comprehensive programmes for Public Health, allowing me to explore a variety of different disciplines while still allowing me to experience and develop on my interests. Furthermore, I knew that the lecturers were leading experts in their field and I would be learning from the best.
