MSc Health Policy, Planning & FinancingContact Muhammad Awwal Abdullahi
I have a degree in Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University. In the last three years, the core of my work has centred around providing technical support to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on meeting its health financing mandate, especially setting-up the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), one of Africa’s largest health investment and Nigeria’s attempt at increasing Universal Health Coverage.
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in how small risks pools for health insurance can be improved in LMICs especially when faced with black swan events and the policy options that are needed to pre-empt these events from taking place. I enjoy programme design and implementation, and I look forward to a career working across LMICs through finding sustainable and innovative ways to fund healthcare.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
My course is a joint master's between LSHTM and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The two schools are world renowned and have made great strides in the field of public health and social sciences respectively. I also love how the programme provides me with the requisite tools needed to understand how health care is financed and how health policies shape the health system landscape.
