I am a currently third-year medical student in Hong Kong intercalating at LSHTM. In medicine, diet change is often recommended as the first line of management for non-communicable diseases, yet there is little emphasis on nutrition in medical education. Identifying this gap in the curriculum, and motivated by an inherent interest in clinical nutrition, I chose this intercalation in the hopes of improving my ability to provide effective holistic care.
Research interests or career goals
Recognizing the mounting evidence for nutritional and supportive medicine, I envision a paradigm shift in healthcare integrating these personalised aspects with advancing clinical practice. As an emerging field, I hope to facilitate and ensure the establishment of integrative medicine within standard care. In the future, I also aspire to volunteer as a medic in low-income settings to improve the standard of health in such regions.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
LSHTM appealed to me not only because of its central role in enhancing healthcare, but also because of the incredible global vision upheld throughout the School. In particular, I chose MSc Nutrition for Global Health as I recognise its potency as a basic yet cost-effective method of preventing the onset or deterioration of disease, especially in regions with limited access to healthcare.
