MSc Public Health for DevelopmentContact Katie Barrett
BSc Politics and Sociology and 10+ years professional experience in NGOs and research primarily in the fields of malaria, HIV/AIDs, medical education, climate change and animal welfare. My most recent role was as programme manager and budget holder for a multi-year donor funded accountable grant in Zambia.
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in how policies are made and the context in which they are made. I am also interest in how donor funds are prioritized, dispersed and accounted for. Particular interest areas include mental health, planetary health, animal assisted therapy, nutrition, palliative care and social welfare.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
I chose the MSc Public Health for Development at LSHTM because I wanted to attend a leading academic and research institution with a world-class reputation and experts in a range of fields. I also was attracted by the location of the institution in a city as connected, accessible and varied as London. The MSc requires professional experience in a low- or middle-income country and so our cohort is a rich and diverse group of students. We learn as much from one another as we do from our formal teaching and the relationships have been a highlight of my time so far.
