Educational/professional background
My name is Kasia Tyrrell, I am from the U.K and I am studying the MSc Control of Infectious Diseases. For my Undergraduate I studied a BS Biological Sciences at Lancaster University, with a year abroad in North Carolina (NCSU). In my undergraduate degree I found a particular interest in infectious diseases and emerging diseases. My dissertation project focused on resistance to Trichuris trichiura (human whipworm) infections. After graduating, I moved to Madrid and lived in Spain for two years teaching English.
Research interests or career goals
I would like to have a career as an infectious disease analyst or researcher.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
LSHTM's MSc Control of Infectious Diseases was always in the back on my mind, as the course I am on gives a broad introduction to disease control without compromising the biological and laboratorial side of public health. I decided to take the chance and apply to my dream course. So far, I am really enjoying being back in academia and learning about different infectious diseases and their control. I have also joined the Taekwondo club, which is a great opportunity to try something new and have a moment to disconnect from studying.
