MSc Public Health – General streamContact Karis Cheung
I am a 3rd year medical student intercalating the MSc Public Health (General stream).
Research interests or career goals
I am hoping to become a doctor while conducting medical research. I have not decided on a particular research area, but I am more interested in studying the epidemiology of diseases.
In my past two years as a medical student, I have been learning about the many different diseases that we are susceptible to. This, together with the metaphor of a 'dangerous river' mentioned in my first ever public health lecture at medical school, have reminded me of doctors’ limitations. The metaphor alludes to doctors’ blind efforts to save the drowning patients downstream while ignoring the problem’s cause. I began yearning to tackle the upstream problems by practicing public health and conducting research.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
LSHTM is well-known for its public health studies with an impressive track record of research and publication. I believe that the numerous opportunities taking place at the School and the student population diversity will increase my exposure to the latest development in public health.
