MSc Public Health for DevelopmentContact Joowon Kim
I hold a BA in Political Science, Konkuk University, Korea. Most recently I worked in Ghana for 28 months as a Monitoring and Evaluation officer of WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) programme in UNICEF through the UN Volunteer programme. Before joining UNICEF, I worked as an education programme coordinator for projects in Senegal and Burkina Faso. I also have experience in policymaking level of the education development project in Guatemala.
Research interests or career goals
I have interest in behaviour change, health evaluation and health/WASH interventions in humanitarian settings. I am hoping to work in the humanitarian context as a health or WASH officer in the UN system.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
The global reputation of LSHTM is very well known, and especially in many UN organizations including UNICEF. I had many colleagues who did their masters, PhD, distance-learning or short courses in LSHTM, and they encouraged me to apply for this school. Also, since I came from non-medical background, I was looking for a course which can provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. As the MSc Public Health for Development requires at least 2 years of working experience in LMICs, I got to know about various development contexts through peer-learning. LSHTM is also providing many quantitative data courses using STATA, APK and GIS which can help me to gain useful and practical skills for my career path.
