MSc Health Data ScienceContact Isobel Trout
Intercalating between my fourth and fifth year of studying Medicine at the University of Birmingham.
Research interests or career goals
Next year, I will be applying for an academic foundation post for FY1/2 because I want to combine my interest in research with my passion for clinical medicine. As a team member of STARSurg and CovidSurg Collaboratives, I have helped run international surgical audits, looking at outcomes for surgical patients across the world. I am also keen to gain more knowledge and experience in population health research and hope to do this through my Term 2 modules and summer project.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I was actually very undecided because so many of the courses here at LSHTM are so interesting! I ended up applying for the MSc Health Data Science because it was a great mix of statistics, epidemiology, and more practical aspects of data management. I’m really excited for the term 2 modules as well as it’s the opportunity to consolidate all the knowledge and skills from term 1 and apply them in a practical setting.
I was drawn to LSHTM because of my interest in global health and it’s incredible international reputation in this specialty. When it became clear that coronavirus was going to significantly impact teaching during the academic year, I thought the school would be one of the best places to study as I knew it had a track record of delivering courses online. So far, LSHTM hasn’t disappointed, although I’m crossing my fingers for some socially distanced socials with my course mates in the spring!
