MSc Control of Infectious DiseasesContact Heather Hopton
I graduated from BSc Applied Medical Sciences in 2019. Then I spent a year working as a Graduate Intern at the Society of Chemical Industry in London.
Research interests or career goals
I’m still working out my niche but I would really like to design and run disease control programmes. Pretty much every week I learn about a new disease which interests me and which I could imagine working on. I’m hoping to have quite a broad career, having the opportunity to work on lots of different diseases but if I had to choose now then I would like to work on control of Dengue Virus.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I was really excited to join a university where everybody is working in a public health field. I thought that I would be able to learn from everybody I meet. We do a lot of cross-course learning and so far I was right! I really enjoy working with and learning from my colleagues on other MSc programmes.
I also really like how small LSHTM is – it feels like you are part of a community (despite being online) and you start to see the same people popping up all over, which is really different to where I did my undergraduate degree.
