MSc EpidemiologyContact Hannah Choi
I studied BA Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oxford, focusing on infectious diseases and applied immunology. During this time, I realised that while I loved learning about infectious diseases, I was much more interested in working with data than in lab work and data collection. I also wanted to learn how to look at infectious diseases not just at the molecular level but also within the “big picture”, i.e. at the epidemiological scale.
Research interests or career goals
My interests lie in infectious disease epidemiology and vaccines, and I am exploring a new interest in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases – something I never would have dreamed of learning about prior to coming to LSHTM!
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
I was drawn to the LSHTM not only because of its excellent reputation for global health research and teaching, but also because of the lovely and encouraging atmosphere which I first encountered at the open day and has held true every day since I arrived here, and the incredible diversity of people from different backgrounds and countries. I chose the MSc Epidemiology because it aligned very well with my interests and I liked its strong focus on developing analytical and scientific skills (as compared to just acquiring more knowledge).
