Educational/professional background

I am an intercalating medical student from King’s College London, undertaking this MSc after my third year of Medicine. Having volunteered within numerous organisations, the most recent being a non-government organisation working to remotely procure and distribute personal protective equipment nationwide, I gained insight into various different inequities and insufficiencies relating to health planning and financing. Delving deeper into these problems, I undertook research into inclusivity, inequities and intersectionality relating to social determinants of health. As a means of practically addressing certain aspects of these issues, I took part in various schemes to further integrate multidisciplinary engagement into education in health planning, in addition to seeking mentorship from those actively involved in such initiatives.

Research interests or career goals

An important research interest of mine stems from social determinants of health and inequity. The World Health Organization states reformation of the health financing system will likely be key in attaining universal health coverage and improving equity; however, other aspects to consider also include access and use, and particularly how these may be influenced by social determinants of health and their intersections.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

My programme is undertaken at both the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the London School of Economics & Political Science. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to study at these internationally renowned academic institutions, as this has allowed me to learn from experts and engage in unique scholarly discussions with multidisciplinary peers.
