Educational/Professional Background
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biostatistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya and graduated in 2021. I am currently undertaking the MSc Medical Statistics at LSHTM. I have worked for the Digital Health Applied Research Centre (DHARC) in Kenya as a Data Analyst, where I supported ongoing health research projects. Working here helped me gain an interest in using my statistical skills and knowledge to contribute to medical research and helped me understand the day-to-day activities of a (bio) statistician.
Research Interests
I am passionate about developing novel statistical methods that can be used in medical research, particularly cancer research, and addressing various health challenges that affect Sub-Saharan Africa. I also hope to develop statistical methodology for clinical trials and help make clinical trials more efficient. Aside from this, I am passionate about mentoring young statisticians. I am involved with various mentorship programs like the Research Clubs of Africa (RCA), which helps mentor high school students about research in Kenya.
Why I chose LSHTM/ My programme
I chose MSc Medical statistics because I have always been passionate about clinical trials and how to use my statistical knowledge and skills to improve clinical trials and health in the long run. I knew LSHTM would steer me toward this goal. LSHTM has rich knowledge and expertise, and being taught by individuals who have published in journals and conducted research in clinical trials made me choose the school. Additionally, LSHTM is consistently ranked top in the world and is known for conducting top-notch research, especially in Africa, so honestly, who wouldn’t want to learn from such a great institution as this?
