Educational/professional background
I am a Public Health Professional from Athens, Greece. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the Technological Educational Institute (Greece) and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Essex (England). During my MSc, I conducted a systematic review on the effectiveness of prophylactic granulocyte-colony stimulating factors of febrile neutropenia during chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. I am currently enrolled in a Master’s program at LSHTM studying Epidemiology.
After completion of my Master’s degree from the University of Essex, I worked for an NGO in Masaka, Uganda on projects that improved sexual and reproductive health services for young women in Uganda. These included providing modern contraception, menstruation care, HIV and STI testing and treatment.
Research interests or career goals
As a Public Health Professional, my passion is to protect the health of populations, promote healthy lifestyles, and respond to infectious and non-infectious diseases. In the future, I would like to take up a role in epidemiological research, or work with either the World Health Organization (WHO) or other non-governmental organizations with the aim of addressing global public health problems.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
After researching potential schools, I chose LSHTM because it is one of the most renowned universities in the UK and among the top institutions in the world. Furthermore, LSHTM has a strong international environment with staff and students from diverse backgrounds, which enriches the learning experience. I applied for the MSc Epidemiology programme because I would like to develop my quantitative analytical and computer skills.
