MSc Public Health – General streamContact Alyssa Thurston
I completed a BSc in Biology with Distinction (minor in international relations) at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. As an undergraduate, I explored my interests in public health through research on pesticide contamination of breast milk and malaria management. After graduating, I joined an intergovernmental organization in Thailand that works to strengthen disaster preparedness in the Asia Pacific region. I primarily worked to develop project proposals, create online courses, and support program implementation.
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in public health in disasters and emergencies, particularly in protecting and promoting women’s health in these contexts.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
As an institution, LSHTM attracted me because of the value placed on scholarship that translates to policy change and real-world impact. I was excited to learn from experts at the forefront of public health innovation and engage with the diverse student population. There is never a dull moment at LSHTM - the variety of seminars, documentary screenings, and conferences makes it such a vibrant and stimulating environment.
