2022-23 Amgen Scholarship

Amgen is pleased to announce the continuation of their sponsorship programme for the 2022-23 academic year. Amgen is offering this scholarship funding to encourage people to undertake an MSc related to Medical Statistics, and so to help bring about the next generation of statisticians into the pharmaceutical industry.

The Amgen Scholarship will cover 1 year’s tuition fees, up to GBP 11,000, for the 2022/23 MSc Medical Statistics. The scholarship is available to applicants assessed at the Home fee status, who have demonstrated a passion for the pharmaceutical industry.

As part of the sponsorship, the successful student would be required to undertake their MSc project in collaboration with Amgen. Some examples of projects in 2020-21 include:

Modelling patient enrolment in clinical trials

  • Poisson-gamma enrolment model
  • Analytic predictions and Monte Carlo simulation
  • Interim Bayesian enrolment re-projection
  • Optimal enrolment design

Modelling events in event driven trials

  • Modelling processes of multiple events and time to complete trial accounting for ongoing enrolment
  • Exponential and more general models for survival times
  • Analytic and Monte Carlo techniques for predicting the number of event counts

To be eligible for this funding, applicants must:

  • Have been assessed for admission at the Home fee rate, and
  • Hold an offer of admissions for MSc Medical Statistics, and
  • Be able to demonstrate a passion for the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. from previous work experience or involvement in PSI).

This funding is only available to students with no current funding available.

  2. covering letter explaining their interest in the pharmaceutical industry

The deadline for applications is 1 July 2022.

Additional application information

The LSHTM MSc Medical Statistics programme has been identified by Amgen as a suitable programme for this scholarship. A number of other universities with similar programmes of study are also identified as suitable, and are also being offered this scholarship funding. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that an applicant for LSHTM’s MSc Medical Statistics will be awarded the scholarship.
