Use of social network analysis to study health care provider advice & performance
Kate Sabot, a public health monitoring & evaluation (M&E) specialist will present her work on the use of social network analysis to study professional advice and performance among health care providers. A recently published systematic review showed that social network methods are underutilized in the health sector.
This review of databases and articles by IDEAS team members, spanning over 26 years and sought to analyse whether and how social network methods have been used to study professional communication among healthcare providers. Social network analysis quantifies and visualizes relationships between and among individuals or organizations – in other words, it’s a way to show how information flows between people. Understanding how information flows through networks of health care providers could help ensure that knowledge and skills are passed on and that life-saving behaviours are adopted.
