Understanding diversity among Plasmodium falciparum isolates

Dr Sarah Tarr will deliver this talk entitled 'Understanding diversity among Plasmodium falciparum isolates through whole transcriptome analysis'.

Diversity in antigen expression levels captured through highly resolved whole-transcriptome profiling of clinical and laboratory-adapted malaria parasite isolates’.  In brief, we identify novel, variably-expressed merozoite antigens through whole transcriptome analysis of malaria parasite isolates using RNA-seq.  We validate our findings at the protein level, and at the transcriptomic level in a broader panel of clinical isolates.  These proteins constitute novel targets for characterisation for merozoite-stage intervention.
