Refugee Crisis and Health Care System in Turkey: Current Status and Challenges

Özge Yavus Sari will deliver this talk entitled 'Refugee Crisis and Health Care in Turkey: Current Status and Challenges'.

Abstract:

The health response for conflict affected people has been a major public health concern in Turkey since the outbreak of Syrian Crisis. The updated figures show that Turkey is hosting over 3.4 million refugees and only 10% of them live in the camp settings where basic needs, health and education services are provided. Despite services that cover registered refugees living in cities, their access is hampered by many factors like frequent relocations, registration problems and language barriers. This seminar will provide a general outlook of the health care system in Turkey and the role of community health centres and public health specialists in terms of the provision of health services for refugees. Future research needs addressing refugee health issues and potential areas for collaboration will also be discussed in the final part of the seminar.
