Protein O-glycosylation of the oral pathogen Tannerella forsythia

Professor Schäffer has been involved in the field of bacterial glycobiology for almost 30 years. She is the head of the NanoGlycobiology unit in the department of NanoBiotechnology at BOKU, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna.

Her research focuses are (1) glycobiology and disease including biochemistry and molecular biology of glycosylation in the context of bacterial pathogenicity and biofilm and (2) synthetic glycobiology for applications in (nano)biotechnology and biomedicine.
