Infant and child feeding in emergencies

Karleen Gribble PhD, Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Western Sydney University

This seminar will provide an introductory overview of infant and young child feeding in emergencies including how emergencies affect infant feeding practices and child survival. It will also discuss how aid can undermine or support the health of infants and young children in emergencies through their impact on infant feeding practices.

Dr Gribble is an Adjunct Fellow in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Western Sydney and is visiting the UK for two week. She is a member of the Core Group on Infant Feeding in Emergencies which has recently produced guidance on infant feeding in the current European refugee crisis. She is a well-known expert in infant feeding in emergencies and also advises the Infant Feeding for Refugee Children grassroots volunteer group, who have developed several resources for volunteers and health workers in the current crisis.
