Title: Functional outcomes reported by patients following radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer: a comparison of surgical techniques
Summary:
Radical treatments for prostate cancer may have adverse effects on sexual, urinary or bowel function. Radical prostatectomy is a primary surgical treatment option for men with localised prostate cancer. Robotic assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) has been rapidly adopted without robust evidence comparing its functional outcomes against laparoscopic (LRP) or open (ORP) surgical techniques. In this presentation I will use contemporary ‘real-world’ data from the NPCA to compare the functional outcomes reported by patients 18 months after diagnosis in England who underwent RARP, LRP or ORP in 2014.

Title: The impact of Comorbid Conditions on Outcomes of Joint Replacement Surgery
Summary:
Joint replacement surgery is one of the most effective interventions leading to considerable improvements in function and quality of life. As the prevalence of people living with comorbid conditions increases with age it is expected that an increasing number of patients undergoing elective joint replacement will have comorbid conditions. In this talk I will present the results from my meta-analysis on the impact of 11 individual comorbid conditions on short-term and long-term outcomes of hip and knee replacement surgery.
