“Food and Agricultural Approaches to Reducing Malnutrition” (FAARM): An ongoing cluster-randomized trial in rural Bangladesh

The FAARM trial (2015-2019) is evaluating the impact of a Homestead Food Production program (home gardening, poultry rearing, nutrition and hygiene education) implemented by the NGO Helen Keller International in Sylhet, Bangladesh on undernutrition in women and young children. The primary outcome is stunting (length-for-age) in children under age 3. Secondary outcomes include micronutrient deficiencies, diarrhea prevalence and size at birth. We are also studying program impact pathways, including through dietary diversity, food hygiene, income and empowerment of women.

Sabine studied medicine and worked clinically in Sweden for some years before completing an MSc and then PhD in epidemiology at LSHTM. Since 2014, she has been heading the Unit of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Heidelberg Institute of Public Health. Her research interests include maternal & child health and complex interventions.
