Gert-Jan Wijnant is a research degree student in the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at LSHTM and a member of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network Euroleish (www.euroleish.net). His PhD project in the group of Professor Simon Croft focusses on preclinical drug development for the neglected tropical skin disease cutaneous leishmaniasis. He has experience in academia (University College London, IHTM Lisbon, Universidad Complutense de Madrid), pharmaceutical industry (Pharmidex) and public private partnerships (Drugs for Neglected Disease Initiative). As a Belgian pharmacist (Ghent University) with postgraduate training in Tropical Medicine and International Health (ITM Antwerp), his main interests lie in solving issues related to the treatment of infectious diseases.
