Sarah Tougher is a health economist with a decade experience conducting applied research in low- and middle-income country settings. Her research interests include the evaluation of complex health systems interventions, the role of information and incentives in shaping the behaviours or providers and patients, and the private sector. Tougher’s research projects have spanned 13 countries in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, in addition to recent work on the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and use in Canada.
Tougher’s work has been published in leading medical journals, including first-authored publications in The Lancet, The Lancet Global Health and Health Affairs. Her research has also been covered in many major international news outlets, including The New York Times, BBC, Nature, Science and NPR.
