Anne graduated in mathematics from Exeter University and qualified as a nurse at St Thomas' Hospital, London. She subsequently joined St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College where she was involved in work on the epidemiology of congenital malformations and coordinated the first UK antenatal serum screening service for Down's syndrome. In 1998, she obtained an MSc in Epidemiology at Erasmus University, Rotterdam (The Netherlands). She joined LSHTM in 1999 working initially as a tutor on the Distance Learning Epidemiology programme, then the DL Epidemiology Programme Director.  More recently, Anne took up the role of co-Taught Programme Director of the Epidemiology and Population Health (EPH) faculty.
