Dr Amare is a medical doctor and epidemiologist, with a PhD in international maternal and child health from Uppsalala University, Sweden and post-doctoral training at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health as a Fogarty Global Health Fellow. He has effectively collaborated and partnered with academicians and researchers in Africa, Europe and United States of America. He has worked in higher education in Ethiopia and provided clinical services in both the public and private sector.

Teaching
He teaches Epidemiology and Public Health courses for MSc Epidemiology and MSc Public Health. He supervises MPH students and PhD student. He serves as examining board committee/ panel member for MPH and PhD disserations.
Research
His research area focuses on maternal, adolescent and child health and nutrition, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases. He is a peer reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals and a member of the Research Advisor Council of the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.
