Dr Gillian Stresman
PhD
Assistant Professor
of Malaria Epidemiology
Gillian Stresman is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine working on her Sir Heny Wellcome fellowship awarded from the Wellcome Trust. She has been working on malaria epidemiology research for more than 10 years and has spent time in multiple malaria-endemic countries including Zambia, Kenya and Haiti. Her focus is on understanding malaria transmission dynamics both in terms of the epidemiological and spatial dynamics of disease with the ultimate goal of reducing transmission and being able to measure any reduction. This includes studies aimed at understanding the role of spatial dynamics of malaria at various scales, identifying residual parasite populations, and to identify tools and metrics for malaria surveillance that are operationally feasible for implementation in endemic settings. Other research funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on malaria elimination both in terms of how to achieve zero and how to measure absense of infections through her current Freedom From Infection project.
