As an assistant professor in the International Centre for Eye Health in LSHTM, I have taken on the role as Programme Director for the MSc in Public Health for Eye Care. Along with this, I retain a clinical commitment as a consultant ophthalmologist in the NHS in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
I also serve as the Clinical Lead for the RCOphth National Ophthalmology Database (NOD) Cataract Audit, providing quality assurance for publicly funded cataract surgery in the UK (https://www.nodaudit.org.uk/), and prior to that I was the Principal Investigator on the RCOphth Way Forward project, identifying and disseminating progressive working practices across the UK (https://www.rcophth.ac.uk/standards-publications-research/the-way-forwa…).
In my clinical role I undertake high-volume cataract surgery and am responsible for the Emergency Eye Care provision in Leeds Teaching Hospitals. I am a founder member and former Vice President of the British Emergency Eye Care Society (www.BEECS.co.uk) and serve on the Council of the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress (https://www.ooc.uk.com/).
Until 2012 I worked for 4 years with CBM in Sierra Leone developing eye care services based in Freetown.

I am the module organiser for 3404 Non-Communicable Eye Diseases, and 3407 Implementing Eye Care: Skills and Resources along with being the Programme Director for the MSc PHEC, and also teaching on 3400 Epidemiological Methods Applied to Eye Diseases and the Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Nursing
Research
My research interests are centred around cataract surgery, but also issues around quality of international eye health service provision and sustainability.
