Profile: Tazio Vanni

Tazio Vanni from Brazil is studying for a PhD in the Department of Public Health & Policy

"Having a background in medicine and economics, I truly believe that the growth of scientific knowledge doesn't respect borders. This is one of the reasons why I feel at home at LSHTM. The school has experts from various fields working together for the sake of research excellence. This is particularly important in my area of research, model calibration approaches for economic evaluation in health.

As a PhD student at LSHTM, I had the opportunity to attend various courses at the school as well as other colleges and schools of the University of London. The exceptional libraries and computational resources have also been of paramount importance to the development of my project. The school is culturally rich, and as a foreign national (Brasil), not only do I feel welcome, but I also exchange experiences with people from all parts of the world.

I was fortunate to be awarded a graduate teaching assistantship by the school. The teaching experience has been very rewarding. The school gives all PhD students opportunities to engage in teaching activities, always respecting their interests and needs.

The school's prolific academic environment coupled with your own personal willingness to strive will make your time here a solid foundation for a successful research career."

Sarah Caldwell and Caroline Ochieng are also studying for a PhD in the Department of Public Health & Policy
