Sunil George from India studied for the MSc Public Health in Developing Countries
"The diligent seeker shall always find the truth.' These lines from the Upanishads, one of India's ancient sacred texts, have always inspired me in my search for answers to both personal and professional issues. Before coming to LSHTM I worked in various capacities with People living with HIV/AIDS in India and Kenya. These experiences taught me that health is more than the absence of any disease and its determinants are not just clinical but socio-economic and political. This period also pointed to me the need for a formal training in public health that would give me an in depth comprehension of the core concepts in Public Health.
With its reputation as one of the best school of public health in the world, the decision to come to LSHTM was easy. That was probably one of the best decisions I had made in my professional life. In addition to a comprehensive training in the core concepts of public health, I was challenged to critically evaluate my own ideas and approaches both by the professors as well as my fellow students! I have benefitted a lot from the world class teaching facilities as well as tutorial support. Moreover the opportunity to learn from one another in a friendly non-threatening atmosphere is yet another important feature of the school that has helped me both in my personal and professional growth.
As I come to the end of this phase of my life at LSHTM and look forward to continuing my journey in search of an equitable society, I am confident that the time spent at LSHTM has made me better prepared for the challenges and hurdles that lie ahead."
