Profile: Maria Teresa Cutino Moguel
Maria Teresa Cutino Moguel from Mexico studied for the MSc in Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases
"My interest in science started long before I studied Medicine in Mexico City and led me to work in a laboratory of immunogenetics whilst at medical school. After finishing my degree, I worked in immunogenetics and clinical genetics. The course had exactly what I was looking for as it combined molecular biology with the area of health I was interested in the most: infectious diseases. Coming to LSHTM broadened my view of disease, giving me the opportunity to understand the molecular mechanisms of infectious agents, their vectors and their hosts and placing them within the context of public health worldwide. This broad view can only be achieved in an institution in which people from all around the world study together, undertaking postgraduate studies in all the different aspects of tropical diseases. The experience of people from so many different backgrounds, both students and teachers, enriches the process of learning enormously. Studying at LSHTM with its friendly and academic environment, has been a constant challenge, but I will remember it as one of the best experiences of my life."
Marc Tebrügge also studied the MSc in Applied Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases
