Profile: Licia Larocca

Licia Lorocca from Italy studied the MSc Sexually Transmitted Infections & HIV

"After graduating in Italy with a degree in medicine, I began specialising in Infectious Diseases. I have always had an interest in sexually transmitted infections especially HIV and their impact on health status. I selected the School because of its superior international reputation for course content and teaching. I was also fascinated by the many articles written by staff and the close co-operation with University College London.

It is a good course and this has been a very useful year. I am impressed by the staff who are friendly and enthusiastic and each student has a tutor who provides support and guidance. It has reinforced my first degree adding practical experience in designing STDs control programmes. I have learned a lot not only about STIs but also about public health strategies and methodologies for their promotion. The Library is excellent, offering an immense variety of journals and books and is also warm and comfortable. Finally, there is amazing interaction with students from diverse professional and socio-cultural backgrounds sharing not only scientific knowledge but new culinary delights too; I love cooking and it was amazing learning new dishes from such different cultures. I will miss all of this when it is time to leave."
