Profile: Anya Ikechuku
Anya Ikechuku from Nigeria studied for the MSc in Tropical Medicine & International Health
"I qualified as a medical doctor in Nigeria six years ago and worked in rural health care, NGOs and urban tertiary medicine. I increasingly felt a need to update my clinical skills and to explore the broader issues underlying medicine in the tropics. Coming to the LSHTM to do the MSc Tropical Medicine & International Health seemed a good idea, and so it proved. I particularly enjoyed the encouragement to be independently critical and the emphasis on practical skills. Being taught by, and challenging, leading researchers in various fields was exciting. The teaching was excellent and the friendliness and cultural diversity of staff and students was amazing. I took the option of doing the Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene in addition, which exposed me to a myriad of experts in various fields and a group of wonderful classmates who came just for the Diploma. I now hope to do more work in HIV and AIDS, thanks to my study. I would wholeheartedly recommend the LSHTM."
