Profile: Christine Hwang

"It was with some trepidation that I put my LSHTM application into the mail. What would it be like to head back to school after a ten-year hiatus from the classroom? I need not have feared.
We were eased gently into the course through the well-organised and thoughtfully-prepared orientation. This period gave us time to adjust to the British academic world and to network with our fellow students. At all times, I felt that the staff were here not only to educate me but to really care about the rest of me.
The teaching quality is world-class: my instructors were experts in their field, but despite their standing, they were always approachable. In general, classes were interactive. The material was well-presented, backed up by critical review of scientific data. This (the 12th year of university studies for me) was by far the most rewarding and enjoyable in my academic life.
The experience itself has been most enriching: to have classmates from all corners of the globe and from various career backgrounds meant that not only did we learn from our instructors but from our classmates as well.
As I near the end of my year here, I look back to the day when I first entered the School and am amazed at the knowledge base I have acquired in the past few months. I feel well prepared to head out into the working world as a Public Health Nutritionist."
