Profile: Koshy Eapen

Koshy Eapen from India studied the MSc Epidemiology

"I graduated in Medicine and Management in India before coming to Cambridge and to a year of clinical training at the University of Oxford. Training in research methodology seemed essential. So, before embarking on a career in medical research, I searched for a course and was universally asked why I should go elsewhere when the LSHTM was right here in the UK! With its reputation as one of the three best Schools of Public Health in the world I decided to do the MSc Epidemiology here.

That decision was certainly no mistake. The course is excellently run. The faculty is fantastic and has wide-ranging interests in lab-based and epidemiological or health policy research which meant I could keep my options for further work open or find a personal tutor working on issues in Geriatrics with particular emphasis on cardiovascular diseases which is my specific area of interest.

There are seminars on issues in public health which widen the scope of learning – an experience I would not have been able to garner at any other place. Job prospects after the course are excellent too, as are further avenues for research. There is the thrill of interacting with, and learning from, students from many nationalities, most of whom are to be future leaders in their own countries.

The LSHTM experience is not to be missed!"

Melanie Morris and Philip la Fleur also studied the MSc Epidemiology
