Profile: Pa-Lamin Beyai
Pa-Lamin Beyai from The Gambia studied for a PhD in Department of Public Health & Policy
The condition of my sponsorship was LSHTM or no award. I was not happy with this decision at the time because I felt it narrowed my options of pursuing a PhD programme. However, after 17 months as an LSHTM student, I could not agree more with my sponsors. I have found the work and the School very relevant to my career aspirations as a Health Economist in a developing country. There is no shortage of people willing and ready to help even beyond academic problems. It only takes an e-mail or a phone call before help is available from either the teaching or administrative staff. The ever smiling and ready to assist Registry staff are second to none. The multicultural nature of the student population makes it easier for one to settle in quickly. If I should need another qualification in health-related field, I will follow the footsteps of my sponsors and insist that it is either LSHTM or nowhere!
Jolene Skordis and Meenakshi Gautham also studied for a PhD in the Department of Public Health & Policy
