Intercalating Year Medical Students
Who can intercalate?
Undergraduate medical students on intercalated degrees are allowed to take a year out to either pursue related studies or work. If your university allows you to intercalate on a Masters course then ask your course tutor whether you are permitted to take a MSc outside your university. If so, then consider studying for a MSc at LSHTM. We accept applications from intercalating students from any recognised university anywhere in the world.
Benefits of Intercalating
Possession of a Masters degree will place graduates in a strong position to undertake a research degree (MPhil, PhD) at a later stage, as well as being more competitive in the jobs market in general.

Profile from past intercalating student at LSHTM
Tai Ken Ting studied MSc Control of Infectious Diseases:
"My choice to pursue a Masters at LSHTM before completing my undergraduate degree has proven to be amongst my best decisions. I now comprehend and appreciate healthcare on a larger spectrum; within and beyond the clinical picture that we have been exposed to so far. I have gained new skills through immense work; both thoroughly challenging but ultimately rewarding. Being immersed amongst a wealth of experienced professionals from a multitude of backgrounds; I have had the pleasure of meeting, learning and working with these inspirational individuals. I firmly believe, having pursued a course here at LSHTM, I am now more prepared as a prospective healthcare professional and further inspired to be part of a wider purpose towards health for all. This decision undisputedly has fulfilled and excelled my expectations of an intercalating degree."
