Life in London - a great place to live and study!

Students find London a stimulating and compelling place in which to live and learn, such that time spent studying in London frequently proves a life-shaping experience.

The attractions of studying in London are powerful, but not practical for all and so courses are also available through distance learning.

Students play a crucial role in making London so dynamic (there are more international students here than in any other city in the world) and your experience in this city will be unequalled in opportunities for study and enjoyment. Add to that, world-leading education and learning and you have a chance of a lifetime in London.

As a vibrant, multicultural and still safe city, London embraces the diverse cultures of its population. Whether it's reflected in the 300 languages spoken, food, colourful street markets, music or at one of the city's many festivals, in London you can mix with the world.

Whatever you are interested in, you'll find it here – from historical monuments, dynamic architecture and museums and art galleries, to multi-cultural festivals, great restaurants and plenty of shopping.

On the academic front, London is a stimulating place containing many national archives, great libraries, museums, and research institutes. London is a major centre of medical education and there are many opportunities to attend public lectures at the School, other institutions and learned societies.

There's a great deal to do for free or at little cost in London , which is good news for students. More than 70 museums and galleries are free, including some of the big names such as the Natural History Museum, the Museum of London and the British Museum, which is only around the corner from the School.

With more than 1,800 green spaces and parks and the River Thames running right through the city, this is an interesting place to walk around and soak in the atmosphere.

Location: Bloomsbury

The School's main building is on Keppel Street (see map), situated in the heart of London, in Bloomsbury, immediately adjacent to the University of London's central precinct.

Bloomsbury has long been associated with the arts, education, medicine and London intellectualism. The area gives its name to the Bloomsbury Group (also Bloomsbury Set) of artists, the most famous of whom was Virginia Woolf.

Bloomsbury is the home of a staggering variety of academic institutions - as well as the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, you will find the University of London buildings, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the School of Oriental & African Studies to name but a few.

Some of London's most beautiful public parks and green spaces are in Bloomsbury and in summertime, despite the fabled London weather, our students frequently take their studies into the open air.

There are also plenty of cafés and restaurants in the area to help fuel the cognitive process. Bloomsbury has some very reasonable places to eat and drink. (Including the School's Refectory.)

We are also very close to the shopping areas of Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road, and Covent Garden, so there's no shortage of places to find souvenirs of your time in London .

The greatest challenge when you come to London is how to fit it all in around your studies!
