AIM
To present a variety of existing vertical and integrated eye care programmes as case studies for discussion and analysis; review integration of each of the eye care programmes within the wider health systems.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this module the student should be able to:
- present an eye care programme, discussing positive and negative features;
- critically evaluate a variety of existing eye care programmes for different diseases and from different socio-economic settings and understand their integration within a health system.
CONSTITUENCY
This module is a compulsory module for all MSc Public Health for Eye Care students.
CONCEPTUAL OUTLINE
This module will give students the opportunity to look at a variety of existing eye care programmes world-wide with a view to learning what factors encourage success and what factors cause difficulties.
TEACHING STRATEGY
A combination of interactive seminars, group work, discussions and student presentations will be used.
LEARNING TIME
The module is made up of 100 Notional Learning Hours – 30 hours contact time, 20 hours directed self-study, 10 hours self-directed learning, and 40 hours assessment, review and revision.
ASSESSMENT
Coursework - a literature search and then presentation to the group of their own specific eye care programme or if necessary, one which can be researched.
