International Students Welcome 2012
Thursday 20 September & Friday 21 September 2012
The International Students Welcome is open to all students joining the School in for the new academic year, both MSc and Research students. The programme is aimed at non-UK students, but UK students are very welcome to attend.
Venue: Main LSHTM building, Keppel Street, London WC1E 7HT
Start times: Coffee and tea will be served from 08:30 on Thursday 20 September and we'll get things started from 10:00. On Friday 21 September, we'll start at 10:30 (allowing you a lie-in!)
Social events will take place from 18:00 in the main LSHTM building on both days, run by students.
On Sunday 23 September, there will be a free guided walk around Bloomsbury, examining its Medical History. Please meet from 13:45 on the steps outside the Main LSHTM building on Keppel Street. The walk will last approximately 2 hours.
What the International Students Welcome will cover:
As well as providing an opportunity for new students to meet each other before you embark on your course, the International StudentsWelcome will introduce you to key members of of staff within the School. In addition, various speakers from external organizations have been invited.
Topics covered will include:
- Support within the School
- Opening a UK bank account
- UK healthcare
- Personal safety in London
- London Transport
- Chaplaincy support
- UK immigration
- Social activities in London
- Tips from students on how to make the best of your time
Do I need to sign up?
There is no need to sign up in advance. All you need to do is arrive any time between 08:30 and 09:45 on Thursday 20 September, at the main LSHTM building on Keppel Street (nearest underground stations: Russell Square, Goodge Street or Tottenham Court Road). We will take care of you from that point!
Who is organizing the event?
The Student Advice and Counselling Service, together with student helpers, will be the main hosts, and are looking forward to meeting you!
Worried you will miss the event?
If you are arriving in the UK after the International Students Welcome has taken place, then there will be a catch-up session on Monday 1 October, during the lunch break. During the first week of term (week of 24 September 2012), and email will be sent to all students about the time and location of this session.
