International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) The International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) [formerly the ECDL] is the global IT qualification that enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. The ICDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a qualification in computing to help them with their current job, develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects. The ICDL syllabus is made up of seven modules. Candidates are required to pass a test in each of the modules to obtain the full ICDL certificate (Level 2). The seven modules are: The full ICDL syllabus can be downloaded from http://www.ecdl.com/ Programme : 14th January 2008 - 14th March 2008 The programme is very flexible, consisting of classes, informal support
sessions and tests. The amount of time needed to complete the programme
will depend on your previous I.T. experience. As a minimum, you will
need to attend seven 45-minute tests but most candidates find it necessary
to devote further study time to at least some of the seven modules.
As a rough guide, to pass a module of which you have little or no
previous experience, you may need to spend 10 -12 hours of study time,
making 70 - 84 hours for the entire programme. Taught classes will
be held three times a week. These classes are repeats, so candidates
should only need to attend one session for each module.
International Computer Driving Licence Advanced The ICDL Advanced qualification is designed to progress the computer skills benchmark from the ICDL to the next level of competence. It tests an individual's competence at a much higher level with particular applications. It is modular and a certificate is awarded for successfully passing the test for each module. ICDL Advanced modules available in 2007/08 are: Participants may study for one or more of the above modules. It is not a requirement to pass the core ICDL before taking the advanced level, but a reasonably high standard of competence in the application concerned is required. The full syllabus for the Advanced ICDL is available at: http://www.ecdl.com/ Programme : 21st April 2008 - 13th June 2008 The programme is flexible but will be intense. Some self-study will be required. Support will consist of classes (one session per week per module for four weeks) and informal drop in sessions. As with the ICDL, the amount of time needed to complete the programme will depend on your previous I.T. experience. There is a formal 1 hour test per module. NOTE ON TESTS: please note that there is a separate cost involved
in registering ICDL candidates for tests (this also applies to ICDL
Advanced modules). If you commit to this we strongly encourage you
to take the tests at the times specified in the programme (see above).
Failing this, arrangements can be made for you to take the tests at
other times in the weeks immediately following. However, in July 2007
we will review registered candidates against tests completed and if
the tests have not been taken and there is no arrangement in place
to take them we may cross-charge the registration costs involved to
your Department. This does not apply with regard to re-sits.
