Where we work and who with

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a global institution.  Our collaborative activities extend across the world, and at any one time we have over 100 members of staff living and working outside the UK. Our London-based staff are involved in extensive collaborative activities in the UK, the rest of Europe, and in other regions of the world.

The LSHTM works in close partnership with the institutions in low and middle income countries  in which our overseas staff are based.  We have a number of long-term well-established major collaborations with institutions where we have had a senior member of LSHTM staff based for more than 5 years. We also have many other research collaborations with overseas partners in low and middle income countries.

Our greatest concentration of research is in Africa and particularly in Tanzania, but our research spans all continents. Our research is linked to almost every country in Africa.

LSHTM research degree students also work in many locations, including in the students’  home institutions; many of our partnerships and research projects have developed from these links and Alumni.

LSHTM is committed to working in equitable partnership with our collaborators. We are part of many capacity strengthening projects and consortia in low- and middle-income countries including  the Wellcome Trust African Institutions Capacity Building Consortia, the Public Health Foundation of India, and through clusters of Commonwealth Commission scholarships for distance learning.

Further information can be obtained from Professor Hazel Dockrell, Special Advisor to the Director on Overseas Partnerships (hazel.dockrell@lshtm.ac.uk).
