At the stage of finalising a research idea, identifying a funder or being approached by an external funder, please contact your Research Operations Contracts Officer (ROCO) to set up a meeting.

Responsibilities

The ROCO/ROM will carry out pre-contract assessments, drafting, reviewing, negotiating and signing of contracts and sub-contracts. 

The table below outlines the responsibilities of the ROCO/ROM, Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Administrator during the contract and sub-contracting process.

Pre-contract assessment

The ROCO/ROM will initiate a pre-contract assessment meeting/discussion.  This meeting will assess the nature of the project, the scope of work and any Contractual issues that require further detail and input from specialist support units, such as IP and Sponsorship.

Costing

pFACT submissions should be completed in full before contracts and sub-contracts are reviewed and drafted.

Signing

Only ROCO/ROMs are approved to sign Research Contracts or Research related sub-contracts on behalf of LSHTM.

Tracker

The Research Operations Office uses a tracking spreadsheet to record and monitor progress on contracts and sub-contracts.  Updates on progress will be submitted to the Faculty Administrators on a fortnightly basis or more frequently where agreed.

Sub-contracts

The PI/Project Administrator should complete the Sub-grantee information form and submit this to the ROCO to initiate the process of the Research Operations Office drafting the sub-contracts for your research project.
