Wellcome Trust PhD studentship

The Centre for History in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) invites applications for a doctoral studentship funded by a Wellcome Trust award.

The topic should be related to an aspect of the history of post-war health policy. Preference will be given to proposals on issues such as the history of illegal drugs; the history of voluntary organisations and health; or the contemporary history of patient consumerism, but proposals for research on other aspects of the history of health policy will also be considered.

Supervision will be by Dr Alex Mold. The Centre has a particular focus on the 20th and 21st centuries. It benefits from its unique position at LSHTM, where historians work alongside specialists in public health, epidemiology, health services research and drug and alcohol research. This setting provides an important opportunity for historians to engage with live issues in health policy.

Funding

The Studentship will cover tuition fees at Home/EU level and an annual stipend in the first year and thereafter for three years in total.

Please be aware that non-EU applicants will be liable for paying the difference between Home/EU and overseas PhD fees. Click here for details of the Tuition Fees 2010/11.
