Centre for History in Public HealthWellcome Trust PhD studentshipThe Centre for History in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) invites applications for a doctoral studentship funded by a Wellcome Trust award. The topic should be related to an aspect of the history of post-war health policy. Preference will be given to proposals on issues such as the history of illegal drugs; the history of voluntary organisations and health; or the contemporary history of patient consumerism, but proposals for research on other aspects of the history of health policy will also be considered. Supervision will be by Dr
Alex Mold. The Centre has a particular focus on the 20th and 21st
centuries. It benefits from its unique position at LSHTM, where historians
work alongside specialists in public health, epidemiology, health services
research and drug and alcohol research. This setting provides an important
opportunity for historians to engage with live issues in health policy.
FundingThe Studentship will cover tuition fees at Home/EU level and an annual stipend in the first year and thereafter for three years in total. EligibilityApplicants should be qualified to Masters level in either history of medicine or in twentieth century British history, or in a cognate area.
