BackgroundI am a lecturer at LSHTM. I graduated in PPE from Keble College, Oxford in 1996 and did Public Policy at UCL for my MSc. During my MSc I gained my interest in epidemiology. I worked in clinical epidemiology as an editor on BMJ Clinical Evidence for 5 years. I then worked as an epidemiologist on a variety of projects investigating multimorbidity, diabetes, end of life care, heart failure, and smoking cessation. I have a strong interest in tackling the social determinants of health, with particular interest in the multiple pathways through which transport impacts on health and health and social inequalities. TeachingI teach on the Basic Epidemiology module. ResearchMy research centres on the questions of what constitutes a healthy, sustainable, equitable and resilient transport system and how to achieve it. As part of the Climate Change Mitigation and Health Task force I co-ordinated the transport team, with Prof Ian Roberts. We used mathematical models to estimate the impact of changes in walking and cycling and motor vehicle use on health outcomes, through changes in physical activity, air pollution and road traffic injury risk. We applied these models to both a high income and lower income urban setting. Findings were published in the Lancet before the Copenhagen talks in December 2009. My supervisor is Ian Roberts. Zaid Chalabi is my co-supervisor. | ||
