Background
I am Italian and graduated in Statistical Sciences at the University of Padua. I obtained an MSc in Statistics at the London School of Economics and a PhD in Statistics at Imperial College, London. I joined the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1994.
Teaching
I enjoy teaching statisticians and epidemiologists, especially when bridging the two disciplines. I am a regular member of the teaching faculty for the European Educational Programme in Epidemiology (held in Florence every summer).
Research
Most of my current research activities involve the understanding, development and implementation of statistical methods for long-term longitudinal studies with specific applications to life-course epidemiology and survival analysis. Further work derives from my commitment to improving the understanding of the aetiology of several chronic diseases. In each case my work is motivated by collaborations with epidemiologists, clinicians and sociologists within and outside LSHTM.
