Abstract:

Researchers are expected to make the outcomes of their research widely available to maximise its impact, enable verification, and support further research, but does this happen in practice? If so, what do researchers consider to be the benefits and barriers associated with these activities?

This seminar will discuss the findings of a study to investigate perceptions and practices related to open research among Wellcome Trust and ESRC funded studies, which was performed by the UK Data Service and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 2016.

We will examine the amount and type of research outputs that researchers make available, perceived and actual benefits that they gain from these activities, and the challenges that were routinely encountered.

The seminar will conclude with a discussion of sharing practice in health research, the practical challenges faced by attendees, and practical solutions that may be adopted.
